Inlet View Elementary

DESCRIPTION

Cornerstone General Contractors (Cornerstone), in partnership with the Anchorage School District (ASD), celebrated major construction progress on the new Inlet View Elementary School building—a project that reflected years of planning, community advocacy, and a shared commitment to education.

Following the successful $33.4 million bond approval by voters in 2022, the new school was built on the same South Addition site as the original 1957 building. The replacement facility was designed to meet the educational needs of today while honoring the legacy of the past, and to support over 300 students with enhanced safety, accessibility, and a variety of learning environments.

“This project was a strong reminder that when our community came together to invest in public education, incredible things happened,” said Jim Anderson, ASD Chief of Operations. “We were grateful to the voters, our design and construction partners, and the dedicated Inlet View staff and families who helped shape this vision.”

The new school featured energy-efficient systems, a new gymnasium, an expanded library, and outdoor learning areas that gave students and staff the space and tools they needed to thrive.

Cornerstone led the construction with a deep sense of purpose and local pride. “We weren’t just building a school—we were creating a space where students would grow and thrive for generations,” said Nikolas Heagy, Cornerstone’s Vice President of Operations.

Design and engineering partners included Nvision Architecture, CRW Engineering Group, Corvus Design, BBFM Engineers, RSA Engineering, Northern Geotechnical Engineering, and SALT LLC.

The former school building served the Anchorage community for nearly 70 years. The new school was designed to serve just as long, if not longer. Construction began in summer 2024 and was expected to be complete in time for the 2025–2026 school year. This was the first entirely new school in Anchorage since South Anchorage High School opened in 2004.
